Scituate High School Powerpuff Football Game
to Benefit Help the Afghan Children organization

Ninth grade students at Scituate High School are organizing a fundraiser for Help The Afghan Children. They will play a Powderpuff Football game at 3pm on Wednesday, May 18 on Caito Field. A Powderpuff Football game is a contest that switches roles; the girls play football while the boys wave pom poms as cheerleaders. Tickets sell for $3 for students, $5 for adults and guests, and refreshments will be sold at the game.

"Naan at Noon" with Khaled Hosseini

   Khaled Hosseini will appear as part of Reading Across Rhode Island on Thursday, May 5 for a noontime program. "Naan at Noon" will offer nibblings of naan bread, fruits and nuts, and chai (tea). Mr Hosseini will speak briefly and answer questions. This event is at full capacity.

    The author will speak at Roger Williams University as the guest of Paula Nirschel, the founder of the Intiative to Educate Afghan Women. Ms. Nirschel is acting as the Honorary Co-Chair in partnership with Lt. Governor Charles J. Fogarty for this year's Reading Across Rhode Island project and has instituted an All-Campus Read at Roger Williams University, Bristol. Free. PLEASE CALL TO REGISTER, 401.254.3385

Videoconference with Khaled Hosseini

   Khaled Hosseini will be the featured speaker in a live videoconference for readers in schools, libraries and book groups. This will be an opportunity to hear the author to discuss The Kite Runner, with a Q&A session. We are inviting schools and libraries around the state who are technically capable of participating in this viedoconference to take part in this opportunity. Book Signing at Wilcox Park Bandstand

   Join Khaled Hosseini in Westerly for an event in the park offered jointly by the westerly Public Library and the Other Tiger book shop. Bring a picnic, fly a kite, buy a book and have the author sign it. Free.

Robin and Joyce will share techniques and handouts to help you facilitate dynamic book discussions and to reinvigorate your book club!

The Teen ReActors Five for Flyin'
   The Teen ReActors of Fantasy Works, Inc. will present Five for Flyin': stories and songs based on the themes of The Kite Runner under the direction of Fantasy Works? Education Coordinator, Andrea DeCataldo. Come and enjoy this high-energy performance for readers of all ages at a library near you during school vacation week.

Film and Discussion at the Avon

    There will be a film and discussion at the Avon Theatre by the Initiative to Educate Afghan Women, a scholarship program for Afghani women founded by Paula Nirschel, the wife of Roger Williams University President Dr. Roy Nirschel. Donations of $30 will be accepted at the door.

Book Discussion on The Kite Runner

    No registration is necessary, but patrons may contact the Reference Desk at 455-8110 for information about reserving a book in the month of March for the discussion if necessary (quantities are limited).

· The 3 branches of the South Kingstown Public Library invite readers of The Kite Runner to a special event on Sunday, March 13, 2-4 PM, at the Peace Dale Library, 1057 Kingstown Rd., Peace Dale, RI.

The afternoon will feature:

Copies of the book are available at the Peace Dale Library; at the Kingston Free Library, 2605 Kingstown Rd., Kingston, RI; and at the Robert Beverly Hale Library, 2601 Commodore Perry Highway, Wakefield, RI.
