Jalal-e-Din Mohammad Molavi Rumi was born in 1207 A.D. at Balkh in the north-eastern provinces of Persia (present day Afghanistan). He became famous for his mystical insight, his religious knowledge and as a Persian poet.
In the eleventh century, in Persia, there lived a mathematician named Ghiyathuddin Abulfath Omar bin Ibrahim al-Khayyami. Omar wrote poetry, and his rhymes were rediscovered and translated into beautiful English--more than seven centuries later--by a scholar named Edward FitzGerald. The full text of The Rubaiyat is available at Project Gutenberg, the oldest producer of free electronic books on the Internet.

Since the inception of first Afghan restaurant (Caravan Sarai) in St. Paul, Minnesota over 30 years ago, Afghan restaurants have emerged throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe, with the highest concentration in Northern California today. Afghan dishes are generally mild to moderately spicy mostly including gourmet rice, meat and fresh vegetables.

Charitable Organizations
Based in Rhode Island, the goal of this initiative is to help educate the next generation in Afghanistan . The voices of the women in Afghanistan have been missing. These women will be role models - in law, business, political science, education, and computer technology. They are required to return to Afghanistan each summer to help with the rebirth of their country.

The Fast-track program's mission is to give International youth the opportunity to help Afghan youth by direct interaction with each other through sponsorship and summer volunteer programs.
As Afghanistan struggles to rebuild its infrastructure, Help the Afghan Children has refocused its efforts to provide quality education to Afghan children by establishing "integrated model primary schools". In cooperation with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Education we are introducing new and innovative pilot-programs like peace education, computer literacy, school health, teacher training, and environmental awareness to supplement the regular curricula, in our model schools as part of an integrated approach that will bring sustainable development to Afghanistan.
ASCHIANA (meaning “the nest”) is an Afghan Non-Government Organisation that has provided services, support and programs to street working children and their families for close to ten years. ASCHIANA operates six centres across Kabul, servicing close to 3000 children as well as initiating and operating an outreach program for nearly 1000 internally displaced children.
